I, as of this past Saturday, have a B.A. in Political Science. Granted, I worked very hard for it but I honestly have any feelings about it.
I am now sitting at home, with my right leg elevated because I am the idiot who sprained her knee and twisted her ankle two days before graduation.
I guess I finally graduated to something other than the black girl with an afro; now I will be known as the black girl with an afro that hobbled across the stage with a cane.

So, I went to my internship on wednesday and thursday(spent the night on wed.

On the way over there on wed., I rammed into the back of a bmw on the freeway.
I'm such an idiot.
the bmw was barely dented and apparently the insurance information that I gave the guy wasn't correct because my parents switched insurance companies on friday. And I was barely put on the insurance on friday. Oh, also, it was my sister's car.
We'll see what happens.

There's a new staff person at my internship, her name is Karin.
I was worried at first because I was taken aback because a) when we were introduced, she shook my hand with both hands(that just never happens) and b) she was wearing very formal clothing(dress code there is very informal; my boss wears the same dress practically every day and my supervisor has been known to wear pj's to work).
But my worries were erased by the end of the day.
I found out that:
a) her fiance is transgendered and along with their wedding invitations, they are sending a zine . She stated that if they were unable to create a loving and safe gathering for the wedding for her and her fiance, they were not invited. She hopes that the zine will cut out about forty percent of her family from the guestlist to help curb the cost.
b) she enjoys Peaches, MIA and Bikini Kill. She didnt know who S-K was, but I forgive her.
We're beginning three campaigns against three southern california congress people and I'm really excited about it. Usually, I'm not big on talking to Congresspeople because they just tell you what they want to hear. But, this seems to be something that will be fun. We have the home address and cell phone number for the one in LA so that should be extra fun.

My little sister has decided to sign up for the Army Reserves because apparently she can't afford college. I can almost guarantee that if my sister would have filed her FAFSA earlier, she would have received a bigger financial aid package. My stepfather, of course, because of his extreme cheap-o-ness( as my mom likes to call it), doesn't want to pay for her college and supports her decision. My brother, who was sent to Iraq for a year, supports her decision. I mean, no suprise that he supports her, he actually wants to go back.
So, pretty much, its me and my oldest sister against everyone else. Last time I talked to her, she said that she was never going to forgive my brother or stepfather if something happens to her, which I can almost gurantee will.
To go from this really awesome group of activists and a feeling of accomplishment and excitement to come home to the conservative armpit of California and a feeling of disillusionment and defeat is really too much for me to even comprehend right now.

My week started off so well with pgmg and then ended horribly with the lovely news.
Ugh.

On Saturday, I unexpectedly decided to go to the Pretty Girls Make Graves Concert at The Glasshouse in Pomona.
And I will forever be thankful for that decision.

The reason why I was apprehensive with going was my experience with their last show at the same venue. It was extremely crowded, with the people behind me deciding to start a pit. This resulted in me losing my glasses on the floor. I ended up on my hand and knees, blindly feeling around for my glasses while getting trampled on by the crowd. When I came back up with no success, a guy from the pit asked me what happened. I told him and he decided to go on all fours to look for my glasses while the crowd trampled him. He ended up finding them and I thanked him endlessly.

From that lesson,I went prepared on Saturday night with an extra pair of glasses that I stashed in my car. I ended up not needing them, I stood behind the soundboard, which enabled me to have a perfect view of the stage with no disturbances.

The second most hilarious moment I've had at the Glasshouse, when someone behind me commented that they couldn't see very well over the troll in front of them; they, of course, were referring to the main soundguy of the venue. I've always though he looked like he was a prick, but the description of him as a troll is by far a better adjective. The most hilarious moment at the Glasshouse, of course, was when during the first opening act of a Peaches act, a guy in the crowd yelled that it sounded like Yoko Ono. The drummer looked up and looked at the guy with scorn.

It was an amazing setlist; all I remember from it is that they played This Is Our Emergency right before Parade, and then ended with Sad Girls Por Vida. I was disappointed with the people around me because no one was even moving a muscle; I ended up rocking my ass out. Andrea glanced over, smiled, and pointed approvingly several times during the show.

Afterwards, I decided to stay around to try to get a picture with Andrea. When I was up, my camera ended up dying and I damned to hell. Luckily, one of her friends was taking pictures and he ended up taking like 10 pictures of us. He gave me his email address and he promised to email me the pictures.
Overall, a wonderful night.

I was going through my old emails in my school email address and I have saved two emails that Tobi Vail sent me about the status of my order. I remember when I received the first email, I silently shouted for joy( my roommate was asleep at the time). I have yet to delete the emails.

God, I am such a nerd.

I just came back from the gossip.
And let me just say that that show ranks in my top five shows of all time.

Having beth ditto dance with me and serenade me is definitely a major highlight of my life thus far.

Tonight I saw The Last Town Chorus perform on campus and I cried.
Seeing Megan Hickey(main person in the band) play her lap steel guitar reminded me of the feeling of accomplishment and awe when first seeing carrie brownstein play.
The idea of someone playing an instrument that well and passionately is just absolutely amazing to me.
It was kind of awkward because there was less than 15 people in the audience and I sat in the second row. She ended up giving me a shout out in the middle of the set(I interviwed her earlier for the radio station).
Overall, a good night indeed.

Oh, and the Menomena show I went to?
Awesome.
Lance Bangs was there filming and I was tempted to go up to him and ask him how the progress is on Corin's solo record but I saw that he was working. It also doesn't help that I'm an extremely shy person in the first place.

Hmm, I went to see a band, Sophe Lux, last thursday and that was fun. They sort of sound like PJ Harvey meets Queen. I interviewed the singer earlier that day and she asked me to come up to say hi after the show. She was really excited and gave a really big hug, which I wasnt expecting. The conversation that followed was awkward. Actually, come to think of it, most of the conversations I have with people are really awkward.

And I'm seeing the Gossip tommorrow.

Geezus.
I have no idea when I have time to do any work.

Let's see:
a) this past weekend i went to go see the decemberists in Boston. It was awesome. The opening band, My Brightest Diamond, was also awesome. At first, I did not like the crane wife because I liked Picauresque so much and I only king of liked 2 songs off of the album. But seeing the album perform live has made me a believer.

b)I requested to be on guestlist of the wed. menomena show in the city like 2 months ago.I was not sent a confirmation email until last night. Now, wed. is the the 2nd night of board interviews(fro potential board members for next year) and its a big deal. I sent chris, the station manager, an email sort of exaggerating the importance of the show to me. In fact, I even offered to do some extra openings/closings of the radio station. At this point, I'm willing to do the openings/closing for the next two weeks to go to the show.

c) I saw Mirah and The Blow on the 7th at NYU and what an adventure that was. I invited claire with me because she's a huge mirah fan. So the doors were at 7 and we didn't get there until 7:30 due to unforseeable events(we missed the train and the subway). The minute we walked in we saw a big board with two of the show posters on them, written across them was sold out. Now, I was really pissed at that point because I wasted $16 for nothing. Then, two people walked in and stopped next to us. Talking amongst themselves, they asked each other how they were going to get rid of their two extra tickets. Claire and I took the opportunity and they gave us the tickets for free. The show was absolutely perfect. Claire didn't know song titles so she would sing parts of songs and have me name them. Mirah ended up playing every single song from our quiz. After the show, we saw the two posters in the front that had sold out accross the front still there so we had the brilliant idea of stealing the board. But there was a security guard there so Claire asked him if we could take them; he didnt care if we took them. So, instead of taking off the poster and just taking the posters down, we took the entire board. We went to eat at a falafel place after words and we checked out the back of the board. It was a show poster from a comedy central tour by a guy on best week ever. It was signed and addressed to the nyu program board. Amazing really. Overall, that night went swell.

Stomach-deep in shit sounds about right.

As opposed to knee deep.

I'm trying to stay reasonable but the more I think about this week's events the angrier I get.

Sleater-Kinney currently has a calming effect; I don't know if it will last though.

A more detailed post about why I'm stomach deep in shit rather than knee deep will come soon.

I have to write out a detailed description or else I might think I'm going insane.
